The hike starts at Hotel Belalp. First enjoy the view of the Great Aletsch Glacier here and then begin the ascent. The path passes the Villa Tyndall (built 1877) and leads up to the Tyndall Monument (2351 m above sea level), which is dedicated to the Irish scientist John Tyndall.
The deep affection of his wife, the guilt feelings about his tragic end, and the connection to Belalp and its inhabitants were likely the reasons for the stone monument. John Tyndall (1820-1893) was an Irish physicist and mountaineer. From 1861 until his death, he spent the summers in the Swiss Alps, mainly at his favorite place, Belalp.
The ascent continues until you reach the Hohbiel reservoir. Take a break and enjoy the Valais mountain panorama!
Those who wish can continue hiking up to the Sparrhorn or start the descent down. During the summer months, the Sparrhorn chairlift operates from Thursday to Sunday.
