As we leave Sion, we take a look at a four-and-a-half-thousand-year-old tomb behind the schoolhouse on Rue-du-Petit-Chasseur. On this stage, we mostly move along the «Chemin du Vignoble No. 36». Crossing the Morge, we realize that the area below this tributary was subject territory of Upper Valais for three hundred years. In St. Pierre de Clages, we find a Romanesque church with an archaic appearance and an octagonal tower. In the small, charming medieval village of Saillon on the hill, pilgrims found shelter from robbers and natural dangers in the Jakob hospice. The street that opens the old village center of Saillon to the west is called Rue St. Jacques. And further up the mountain stands the smallest vineyard in the world, which belongs to the Dalai Lama. The sale of the wine – of course blended with top-quality wine from the region, limited to 1000 bottles annually – benefits children’s charities.
