The old Furka-Oberalp route in Naters was transformed into a pedestrian and recreational zone in stages between 2009 and 2012. Today, countless walkers and strollers enjoy the 2.5 km new backbone every day. The Red Mile is car-free and is perfect for a leisurely stroll with the whole family.
Where did the name Red Mile come from?
The "fil rouge" owes its name to the red colour of the plastic flooring and stretches from the old Furka-Oberalp train bridge between Brig and Naters to the railway station in Bitsch.
An experience for cyclists and wheelchair users too
The Red Mile is a barrier-free path and is also equipped with larger meeting areas in two places.
The FO-Kaffee
The old railway station in Naters has been converted into a cosy FO-Kaffee. A large square in front of the café invites young and old to linger and offers ideal conditions for smaller events.
