BELALP HEXE VERTICAL RACE

The legendary Witches' Downhill on the Belalp has been attracting skiers from all over Switzerland for over 40 years. In 2026, the major event has a new feature:
The Belalp Hexe Vertical Race will take place for the first time. Endurance athletes will conquer around 1,000 vertical meters from Blatten (1,300 m above sea level) to Schönbiehl (2,300 m above sea level) - whether on foot, touring skis or snowshoes.
The start is in individual, couples or team categories. Anyone who competes in both the downhill and vertical categories will be awarded the title of combined champion.

The most important facts:

  • Start in Blatten (mass start)
  • Finish on the Schönbiehl at Ricco's igloo
  • Start at approx. 13.00 Finish at approx. 16.00 Schönbiel
  • Categories:
    • Solo (women / men separately)
    • Couples (mixed)
    • Team (3-5 mixed)
  • For the really crazy ones = combined classification (solo start) Alpine race ski and vertical race
  • Free choice of material: e.g.
    • touring skis
    • snowshoes
    • Trail running
  • Around 1000 meters of altitude
  • Basic equipment Compulsory equipment (jacket, etc...) the same for everyone
  • Prize distribution at the Witches Night in Blatten
  • Finish surrounded by the most beautiful witchy atmosphere
  • Included in the entry fee, risk management, refreshments during the race, timekeeping, finisher or starter gift, return journey to Blatten, entry to the Witches Night and an unforgettable experience
